Athrú Craft
“Turning school waste into handcrafted, sustainable products with purpose.”
-

1: Processing Raw material
At Athrú, we start by collecting post-consumer school waste—such as wood metal plastic, paper and other practical classroom materials—through our tailored recycling programme. Participating schools use clearly labelled bins and our QR tracking system to ensure efficient collection and data logging.
Currently, we work with trusted Irish recycling partners who process these materials into clean, high-quality raw resources. This not only supports the local circular economy, but also ensures traceability, quality, and transparency in how school waste is transformed.
Our long-term vision is to bring this entire process in-house by developing an Athrú Hub—a dedicated recycling and production centre that allows us to complete the full circular loop under one roof. By doing so, we aim to create an educational model where students learn using products made from their own school’s recycled waste—real impact, made local.

2: Creating Products
Once processed, recycled materials are transformed into high-quality, functional educational products—such as personalised water bottles, pencil cases, notebooks, rulers, and more. Each item can be custom-branded with the school’s name or student-designed artwork, giving students a real, visible connection to the recycling journey.
By turning waste into everyday tools and resources, we reduce landfill reliance while showing young people the power of circular thinking in action. These products are available through Athrú Craft, our online store, and are made to support both learning and environmental awareness.
As we grow, our goal is to move production entirely in-house within the future Athrú Hub, where both recycling and manufacturing will take place under one roof—ensuring transparency, quality, and full circularity at every step.
